It’s raining outside tonight and not for the first time this ‘summer’. Schools are back and we’ve quietened down, it’s now dark by 8.30pm and the summer is finished! Once again, it flew by..with the bad weather, it seemed like it was never going to get going, and then..all of a sudden.. it was over :(

The summer itself was tricky this year. The weather was so bad, pretty much for the whole season, bar four odd days in August…just before the end of the season, unsurprisingly!  We had bad winds and low temps for the whole summer..so i was always a very happy bunny seeing families heading down to our blue flag beach with their buckets and spades braving the cold. The one thing we had plenty in the shop this summer was suncream :( Hoping that we’re blessed by a bit more warmth and sun next summer…we’re overdue it at this point.

Despite the crapiness with the weather, we were still super busy from the beginning of July until the end of August. Our newly renovated sites on half the touring park were well received & we’re looking forward to upgrading the remaining other sites with electricity, water and drainage this winter. We’re hoping also to build ourselves a few new exciting additions to the Park over the off-season – progress of which will be documented regularly on our social media accounts – keep your eyes peeled online!

We had a great time being filmed for the ‘At Your Service’ television programme in July, just before the August bank hol weekend (of course!). Not only was it a bit of craic meeting the infamous Francis Brennan, I was delighted to hear his surprise as he was walking around – genuine appreciation of the Park, Reception, main entrance, flags, cafe, sites, bathrooms, kitchens…etc etc. From someone who owns a 5* Hotel in Kenmare and is paid to critique on hospitality businesses, it was lovely (and relieving!!) to hear his compliments! The show will be on RTE in the New Year as far as I know. Please don’t comment too harshly on my performance – I’m better on the other side of the camera!

This season, we did a number of fund raising events – as we always do. Last year we brought a cheque for €4,000 to The Irish Cancer Society which was a very sucessful result. So, despite the shocking weather, this summer we brought the train out daily, we held our Footie Tournaments, had our fab ‘Afternoon Tea by the Sea’ (thanks to Rosemary Murray for the inspiration), our two Music nights, Movies, Bridge nights, Poker events, Club Crafts, Bouncy days and our Magic shows. Instead of the fun ‘Shave Or Dye’, we organised our ‘Colour Splash’ which saw everyone get completely dyed up with coloured dry Indian paint. I had planned it as a run too, but we had so much fun throwing paint over each other, we didnt run on afterwards. Next year we’ll order more paints and colours and make it a bigger event!

With your generous donations of books, our bookshelves in the shop were stocked, emptied and restocked to help towards the total throughout the season. The great news (that I’m SO proud to announce) is that not only have we surpassed last years amount, but we’ve managed to increase the Charity donation by 20% to €5,000 this year!!! Five thousand smackeroonies…from a little holiday park in Co Wexford. I’m looking forward to bringing the cheque up to the Cancer Society and we should all be very proud of ourselves, so a big Thank You to everyone who donated throughout the summer. Every € to use the Football pitch or tennis court, every € to take a trip on the Chooo chooo train around the park, every coin you popped into the box beside the cash registers & every €2 to buy a pre-loved book – Thank You. This is a brilliant amount – and at the end of the day, after all the business stuff is done – it’s something that actually makes a difference. I feel that Cancer hits us all in one way or another so will be very happy to give the cheque to them a little later in the month. Thank you all again.

Our mobile homes will be closing at the end of October & we’ve got a couple of weeks left for touring & camping (closing on the 30th Sept) – and will be re-opening on the 16th of March for both. The office will be opening early next year and I’ll be available to take bookings for touring/camping season 2016 from the 1st of March. This can be done by email/telephone – info@morriscastlestrand.com and 087 7737637. Please remember that the main Reception landline (053 91 30124) won’t be available until the beginning of June, so if you need to get in contact with me (for bookings or any other assistance), please use the mobile number above. Also – dont forget that Easter is super early next year and schools are out for 3 weeks from Paddys! Booking for Easter is important so that we know in advance how many Easter Eggs/Bunnies to pre-order from the Easter Bunny too ;)

There are always a few challenges running a Holiday Park (believe it or not!) and this summer was no different. It’s simply only through working with a strong team that you manage to get through the summer unscathed, so a big Thank You to our fabulous team here at Morriscastle Holiday Park – In the always busy Shop and Reception.. Aoife, Jillian, Hannah, Owen, Diane & Erin. In the Cafe … Kelsey, Chloe, Kym, Brendan, Ciara & Lauren and the unbelievably hard working chef Jakey with Holly by his side for part of the season and sous chefs/waitresses Bridin and Ashling. Finally and very importantly our Security/Maintenance crew Daithi, Big Al, John, Brian, Dorian and last but most certainly not least Aine.

Stellar job this summer from all. Thanks guys.

I’ll be posting regularly on our Facebook page so please keep an eye out there for our progression on the site over the winter months. It’s only 185 days until we open again for next season ;)

Thanks again for your support and business this summer. We’ve never been so busy as we were this summer – we SO appreciate your support.

Winter well, Merry Christmas and look forward to seeing you all in the New Year.
